The first step in producing a job using CCN is to select a paper from our growing list of over 1,100 characterized papers. (The use of a CCN characterized paper is not absolutely necessary, but is highly recommended.)

The designer can then begin working on producing the job, using CCN Color to CMYK to determine values of the "called" colors for the selected paper and proofing system to be used.

The designer and/or prepress professional will also incorporate CCN Proof Quality Control Strips (PQC Strips) into the non-live image area of job, to enable their use in performing Proof Analysis.

Once a production proof has been produced on a CCN characterized proofing system, the CCN Proof Analysis (PA) function is performed. This function generates a CCN Proof Analysis Report to evaluate critical production parameters such as Colorant Density at each control set point, Colorant Proportionality (hue), Colorant Laydown order (LDO), and selection of appropriate proofing paper.

When client approval is achieved on a production proof, the PA event is designated as Approved.

Once a print run has been scheduled, the CCN Image Processing Parameters (IPP) function is performed. This creates a new IPP for each printing form on the job, specifying the production parameters. The Press, Press Profile and Paper to be used are input, as well as any adjustments desired to compensate for changes in press operating conditions since the last characterization was performed and transitory printing conditions. Proof Locator Codes (PLCs) are then input for each page to be printed on this press form and the form is submitted to CCN Server.

Prior to making plates for the job, the CCN Color Image Transformation Engine (CITE), installed on the CCN Satellite, is used to retrieve and apply the CCN Color curves for that IPP to the image. Plates are made using a Platemaking System previously characterized by CCN and the press run is performed using a CCN certified ink set run to the solid ink density targets specified for that IPP.
